mmm.... No they don't. I've shot many of them at about 50 m only to have them kind of look near me, then give up, and they were enemy turrets.
Before, the only time I've seen a turret fire by itself was if it was a railgun targeting a point and only once a blaster... such as at C... Which reminds me, on the map with the scaffolding towers in the center, the blaster on the right used to fire at C when it was captured (it's next to a conveyor belt ramp) and now, it cannot fire anywhere in the direction of C, even if manned.

They were only firing back after the 3rd shot, so if you took them down in 3 or less, they would do nothing. I even tried shooting a rail once, then just waiting for it to fire. It didn't. You have to continually hit one in order to get it to shoot at you. That was BEFORE rail AI was messed with. Or has it not been yet.... can't tell the AI still does nothing.
What I used to do when running ground assaults was run between an enemy and a turret, to try to get stray bullets to hit the turret and cause it to target the enemy player. The turrets NEVER reacted, so I stopped trying that long ago. Using terrain like that to overcome adversaries should be a part of the "mind over matter" game style, but we don't really have such a thing in this game. No traps, nothing to lure people into, and no way to trick people into killing themselves.
Now they say they're "Nerfing turret AI" that never participated anyway....
